“It’s just about half way to Christmas and we figured it was a perfect time to remind our shoppers that hunger is a year round issue in Hawaii and not just something our communities and neighbors deal with during the holidays,” said Brian Halsey, Hawaii Market Manager for Walmart. “In launching this effort, we’re proud to strengthen our relationships with Feeding America food banks in Hawaii. We’ve previously donated three refrigerated food trucks for use on Kauai, Maui and Oahu and have just announced two $50,000 grants to The Hawaii Food Basket and Hawaii Foodbank. In addition, The Hawaii Foodbank is among three nonprofits in the running for a $100,000 grant through Associate Choice, an online campaign where Walmart associates vote directly for a local nonprofit to receive funding in their state.”
Dick Grimm, Hawaii Foodbank President responded, "The Foodbank is fortunate to have Walmart as a partner in fighting hunger in Hawaii. Walmart corporate, management and associates have supported our mission in so many ways. They've shown us through their generous donations and volunteerism that they really care about the 183,500 people we help feed each year. A big mahalo to Walmart for their support of the Ohana Produce Plus Program. Not only are they helping to feed communities on Oahu, but are providing families with nutritious fresh produce that many cannot afford."
