The following information is provided by the Department of Safety:
The state Department of Public Safety (DPS) Sheriff’s deputies yesterday arrested a CrimeStoppers/Hawaii Most Wanted Fugitive near the Honolulu International Airport.
A $100,000 bench warrant was issued in Circuit Court on July 22, 2011 to Michael D. Bermoy for failure to appear for execution of his prison sentence resulting from convictions of Robbery in the Second degree and Terroristic Threat in the Second degree.
“Our responsibility is to ensure the public’s safety,” said Keith Kamita, DPS Deputy Director for Law Enforcement. “Thanks to help from our citizens and partnerships with CrimeStoppers, we were able to catch one of Hawaii’s most wanted fugitives.”
On October 20, 2010, an off duty officer observed a man cutting a cable lock to a bicycle on a bicycle rack on Bishop Street. The officer confronted the man and was threatened by Bermoy who attempted to strike him with the lock. Bermoy was arrested and placed at Oahu Community Corrections Center (OCCC). On April 28, 2011 the presiding judge approved supervised release to the U.S. Vets Program.
On Saturday, CrimeStoppers released information on Bermoy.
Yesterday morning an anonymous tip was called into the DPS Sheriff’s Division that Bermoy was at the Disabled American Veteran’s paintball field near the H-1 underpass. He was arrested yesterday on his bench warrant. He was also charged with promoting a dangerous drug in the third degree and drug paraphernalia after narcotics investigators found what appeared to be a glass pipe in his pocket.
