USS MISSOURI: A Musical Tribute

Saturday, May 25 at 2:03 p.m. and 7:33 p.m., Leeward Community College Theatre.

The Sounds of Aloha Chorus presents a musical tribute to the USS Missouri, an entertaining look at the historic ship's service in three wars, its importance as the site of the end of World War II, and its continuing role in commemorating that history as one of Hawaii's foremost attractions.

An acappella extravaganza featuring special guests and 2006 International Barbershop Quartet Champions Vocal Spectrum, as well as local quartets Aloha Spirit, Resonance, Funny Bones, and the male youth chorus 8zero8. Tickets are $25, $30, or, for premium seating and a pre-show reception with Vocal Spectrum, $45.

Honolulu, HI – Did you ever wonder what you’d look like sitting in the cockpit of one of America’s famous warbirds? You’ll have the opportunity to sit in the seat, man the controls, and see the instruments of a WWII fighter or modern-day jet fighter at Open Cockpit Day, Saturday May 11, 9am to 5pm at Pacific Aviation Museum Pearl Harbor in Hangar 79.

Open Cockpit Day is free with paid Museum admission and free for Museum Members.

Guests younger than 10 years of age will require parental supervision to climb up and into the aircraft. Guests must also be able to climb boarding stairs and in to a cockpit to participate. Museum visitors are invited to bring their own cameras and the Museum staff will do the rest. Pilot’s gear, the Museum’s vintage aircraft, and meetings with aviation heroes will create a unique family day.

Just in time for Mother’s Day, Geobunga will host a free Mother’s Day Orchid Workshop that will teach attendees how to transplant, split, prune and properly care for orchid plants. Geobunga will have hundreds of beautiful orchids available at farm-direct wholesale prices, starting as low as $5.

Learn How to Create Your Own Monster at Aiea Library on April 27

“How to Create Your Own Monster,” a free workshop, will be presented at the Aiea Public Library on Saturday, April 27 at 1 p.m. in the Meeting Room.       

Comic Jam Hawaii, a local artists group on Facebook, will conduct the 2 ½-hour workshop for ages 8 and older.  The workshop will cover basic considerations and inspirations for monster designs followed by a couple of monster design demonstrations.  Participants will then have time to draw their own monster creations.  All children must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver.      

Paper, pencils, and crayons will be provided.  Participants may also bring their own art supplies.

Contact the Library as soon as possible if a sign language interpreter or other special accommodation is needed.
