Kaiser Permanente's Moanalua Medical Center Receives "A" Rating for Safety

Hospital Nationally Recognized as One of the Safest in the Country

HONOLULU, HI — May 8, 2013 — Kaiser Permanente’s Moanalua Medical Center has been recognized and awarded with an “A” rating for patient safety in a national report card issued by The Leapfrog Group, rating the hospital among the safest in the country. The Leapfrog Group is an employer-backed nonprofit group focused on health care quality.

The Leapfrog report card, also known as the Hospital Safety Score, exclusively measures safety by evaluating errors, accidents, and infections. Key process measures involved in determining the score for each hospital evaluated in the survey included the management structures and procedures a hospital has in place to protect patients from errors, accidents and injuries.

Fukushima Radiation Update Offered at Pearl City Library on May 5

“Is Fukushima Still a Radiation Threat Two Years Later?,” a free program, will be presented at Pearl City Public Library on Sunday, May 5 at 2 p.m. in the Adult Reading Section.

Dean Otsuki will discuss how Japan, the Pacific Ocean, the jetstream, and the United States have been affected by radiation still spewing from the disabled nuclear power plant.  Otsuki will also share what information Tokyo Electric Power Company, the Japanese and U. S. governments have been providing the public about Fukushima, and what steps can be taken to protect you from radiation exposure. 

This one-hour program is suitable for ages 12 and older and will include a question-and-answer session.  Contact the Library as soon as possible if a sign language interpreter or other special accommodation is needed.

Licensed acupuncturist Mei-Lin Maunakea will discuss how acupuncture and other treatment modalities used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) can help to improve your health.  Research has shown that acupuncture can help to improve blood circulation, reduce inflammation, improve quality of sleep and increase energy level.
