The Hawaii State Public Library System (HSPLS) is a unified system, allowing patrons at every branch equal access to library materials as well as to online information databases and the Internet. HSPLS operates 50 public libraries on six major islands of the State.
The 50 libraries include 12 branches on the Big Island, 6 on Maui, 1 on Molokai, 1 on Lanai, 24 on Oahu, and 6 on Kauai. Twelve of the branches are combination public and school libraries. The Library for the Blind & Physically Handicapped (LBPH) is located on Oahu and serves the entire state.
The mission of the Hawaii State Public Library System is to provide Hawaii's residents, in all walks of life, and at each stage of their lives, with access to education, information, programs and services, and to teach and nurture the love of reading and the habit of life-long learning.
